Opening ODF files using Microsoft Office

Well many of my friends now rarely use Windows, but for all who do use Microsoft Windows and the Office suite provided by it may sometimes have a problem in opening files of Open Document Format (ODF) which is an open standard file format OpenOffice.org and others use. File extensions include .odt (text), .ods (spreadsheet), and .odp (presentation). By default, Microsoft Office does not open these file formats; however, it is possible with a plugin.

This plugin is provided by Sun and is called “Sun ODF Plugin 1.2 for Microsoft Office” from here

For the users of MS-Office 2003 or Office XP

For office 2003 users

If you have Office 2003, Download and install the Sun ODF Plugin should just work. You can download the Sun ODF Plugin from here

For Office 2007 users

  1. First you need to Install Service Pack 1 for Office 2007.
  2. Install Sun ODF Plugin for Microsoft Office.
  3. Open ODT document via File > Open, or by double-clicking the ODT file and when prompted for the application to open it with, choose Word.

Now in that case if you are using pirated version of MS-Office 2007 there might be some problems :) …..When all the alternatives fail,  in comes “Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooogle”…Yes friends, we can always use our best friend on the World Wide Web. Google Docs can help you out of this. So you can upload and save in a format the MS-Office understands (not all are understanding like OOo)… :)

God Bless…Enjoy being free!!!!!!
